Social Media & Me - December 2018

Social Media & Me - December 2018
December 2018’s Social Media activity results remained well below targeted levels with continued improvements over the preceding months. The bullet pointed highlights are
  • Twitter target reached
  • Blogger traffic
    • Just over half of my 2018 target targeted monthly impression
    • A slight increase over the previous month’s total.
The other measure of influence -- how well I provide a platform for advertisers, increased to $16.75 by the end of December.

Twitter

December 2018 began with 643 followers and ended with 644 followers. At the end of November I was following 357 accounts.

Japanese & Chinese Terminology Tweets

Several more vocabulary flashcards were created during the month. Their creation and tweeting did not appear to help generate more traffic to my blog posts.
The new flashcards are being used to build a November to late-March tweet list. Presently, I see that I will be able to have a November 1 to March 23 daily tweet series.

Instagram
The size of my Instagram following ended December 2018 with 2,332 followers. My feed averaged a little better of one photo a day. I continue to see small scale attrition in the number of followers.

Not as well liked
  1. Bonsai, brightly lit
  1. Artsy bonsai photography
  2. Long range grouping of bonsais; close range groupings are fine.
  3. Statues
  4. Furniture
I determine subject matter “Like” as what my followers regularly provide over 100+ likes for that content type.

For 2019 I have a several ideas for Special Issues to add to my regular monthly language postings.
  • Top 10 most frequently appearing characters in the main vocabulary.
  • Cumulative 2014-2018 Tech & telecom, culture corner, & finance terms. That’s 8 Special Issues on these 4 sub-topics. 4 topics X 2 languages = 8 Special Issues
  • Special subtopic editions such as (i) Industry names in Chinese, (ii) software terms, (iii) STEM & chemicals, (iv) banking terms, (v) stocks, (vi) central banker terms -- a catch all for finance terms.
Each of these Special Editions would be accompanied by a listing of all the year’s TTFM posts

End Times for Vocabulary Blogging

From January 2016 to May 2017 my blog Tech, Telecom, Finance & Marketing Chinese/Japanese postings would get two thousand plus impressions each month.  Since then the blog has received 2k+ impressions in any given month only during February 2018. April, November, and December 2018 were the last months with more than one thousand impressions.  So, I ask has the blog’s concept run its course through the targeted audience, or alternatively have I reached the all the targeted audience?

With my intent to halt the vocabulary blogging in 2022, I’m wondering if I should begin slowing the pace of publication from 1 Japanese and 1 Chinese vocabulary list each month to every other month with more attention to special editions instead.

I’m going to let the decision be made through viewership. I’ll keep blogging at the current pace through February 2019. If the average impressions for November 2018 through February 2019 is
  • below 1,000 impressions/month, then I’ll begin blogging every other month -- skipping March 2019 -- beginning in April 2019
  • below 1,800 impressions/month, then I will issue March 2019 vocabulary lists in Japanese and Chinese. If the blog does not receive 2,000 or more impressions during March 2019, then I begin blogging every other month -- skipping April 2019 -- beginning in May 2019.
  • Above 1,800 impressions per month, then I will continue to post once a month for each language for 2019.

If my average monthly blog impressions for March 2019 to December 2019 is below 2,000/month, then in 2020 I will begin posting vocabulary list every other month.

With November & December 2018 each receiving just above one thousand impressions, the current direction seems to be a posting every other month beginning in May 2019.
